Yoga - OOTD

Yoga - OOTD

So, I went to a yoga class this morning. Yay!  I met with W, who I have not seen in a few months.  And we stretched and reached our way through class this morning.  This was a good thing, really.  But why am I pooped and still refueling.  Ugh!  I needs more energy.  But I really like this outfit.  It's comfy and stylish and very comfortable.  The temp was quite chilly this morning and I am really glad that I went to the store yesterday to buy a smaller vest.  I bought large last week and the fit was off.  This is what happens when you try on something but can't find a full length mirror.  Don't ask.  I am currently rehabing my knee after a sudden bout of knee pain.  I am still waiting to find out my exact injury.  But this means that I have had to rework my wardrobe since I don't want to stand and walk around in heels possibly causing more injury and stress to my knee.  I'll be posting my recent attempts soon.

So, how have you re-worked your wardrobe after a sudden life change?  Is it possible to stay stylish and follow the doctor's orders?

How do you follow your favorite blogs?

With the demise of Google Reader, (I know that I am a little late to the game), I have been looking for other RSS feeds and readers to fill the void.  Some were too complicated, others required too much work.  But I read a lot of articles and visited a lot of sites before settling on Bloglovin'.  I was exposed to this site through other fashion blogs.  The interface is relatively easy.  It reminds me of Google reader in its presentation.  And I am able to find and follow my favorite blogs all in one place.  Even better, I can follow blogs not related to fashion on Bloglovin'.  Genius.  So, if you are still looking for a good place to view all of your blogs check out Bloglovin'.

Meeting up with Friends

Hope that you are having a great Sunday.  I just spent the day catching up with friends, tasting wine and trying to avoid the rain.  Mission accomplished.

Saturday OOTD 4.13.13

Saturday OOTD 4.13.13

This weekend was awesome!  I hope that you were able to enjoy the unseasonably warm weather.  It was so nice to take a drive with the sun shining.   I spent the day catching up with C who was preparing for her son's birthday party later that afternoon.  It's kinda crazy that we met when we were just a few years older than her son is now.  It's been a few years since we have chatted face to face.  You know how folks get busy, plans fall through due to freak snow storms and then it's another year that has passed.  So, we made the effort to meet and viola - lunch, running errands and catching up.

I found this pic on Pinterest and this weekend reminds me how true this quote is.   This outfit held up with the temperature variations of a spring day.  I was able to tolerate cool windy days, sunny moments on the deck, air conditioning and cool nights comfortably.  I love this olive jacket.  It's a new find and I love it.  The fit is awesome and the neutral color complements everything.  I am slowly discovering how to incorporate Madewell pieces into my wardrobe.  Trouble!  With a capital T.  How did you spend your weekend?  Were you able to connect with a loved one?

My Very Green Crush

My Very Green Crush

I hope that you've had a fabulous St. Patrick's day.  I wanted to share some of my favorite green things.  Some of these lovelies are in my closet and others are on my wish list.  But I have been slowing amassing green items over the last few seasons.  This is a color that I generally shied away from because I did not own a lot of green or its complementary colors.  So, it always looked weird when I would wear something green.  But emerald and mint green have been drawing me in and I am finding it hard to resist.  So, I have taken the plunge in small doses.  And I really like what I have found.  I was over the moon when Pantone announced that Emerald green is the color of 2013.  And immediately, green offerings are everywhere to be found.  Thanks, Pantone.  My closet and jewelry box now love you.   Do you have any colors with which you are obsessed?  Is this a new find or and old friend?

Sunday OOTD - DST

Sunday OOTD - DST

Today was a one of those Sundays that I treasure.  I awakened to sunlight streaming into my window.  Luckily, I did not have any morning appointments.  I did not set my clock forward last night.  But with the wonders of modern technology, I remembered that Daylight Savings time has arrived.  Satellites and cellphones are a godsend.  I love this time of the year.  The days are longer.  The sun seems a little brighter.  And I am more productive.  Go figure!  I chucked the gym for an outdoor workout and thoroughly enjoyed myself.  Later, I meet friends  to catch up on life.  Noshing on goodies was an added bonus.  I had my first macaroon today.  Citron macaroons are divine!  Moist, yummy goodness that I will have to seek out again.  I made a pit stop at the mall to kill time and avoid a headache as the traffic on the highway was going nowhere fast.  I made 2 lovely purchases and treated myself to a caramel macchiato.  I am officially hooked on this drink thanks to my BFF who loves this beverage.  And I am now home with a few items to check of my to do list before the work week begins.  All this with very warm temperatures and sunny skies. What's not to love.

Did you have a lovely Sunday?  How will you spend the extra daylight hours now that our clocks have sprung forward.

Friday night OOTD

Friday night OOTD

Friday evening are always tricky for me.  I am usually tired by the end of the week but eager to see friends and get out for a bit of fun.  So when my friend emailed me about a play featuring the works of Langston Hughes, one of my favorite poets, I jumped at the opportunity.  I almost usually pick my clothing based on type of event, my level of energy, and expected temperature of the venue.  It was a little nippy yesterday.  So this is what made the cut.  The turtleneck sweater is actually navy blue.  But this one appears to be black.  Do you have a go-to look for the evenings or weekends when you are zonked but still want to socialize?

Victoria Beckham Fall 2013 RTW - NYFW

I have been a fan of Victoria Beckham, the fashion designer, since her first foray into the fashion world.  I have been pleasantly surprised and pleased by her offerings.  I always want at least 5 things from her collection immediately.

I will admit that I am biased since I love the Spice Girls and I think that her husband is pretty fabulous.  But all joking aside, the Victoria Beckham portfolio is very strong and continues to appeal to me as someone who like simple lines, clean cuts, conservative colors with pop and stylish clothes.  The nod to menswear is awesome.  Some would not expect such restraint from this designer.  But I love the flourishes that allow you to make the clothes your own.

Here are a few offerings from VB's NYFW show that could easily fit into my closet.   Can you see any of these items in your closet?

One of those days!

Hi all! Do you every have one of those when everything is going right.  But my midday or early afternoon you just seem to lose steam and them everything is downhill from there?  Well, today is that day for me.  Nothing particularly bad happened.  I just need a serious nap and some R&R.  So, this will be a short post.  Be good to yourself this evening.  Watch some tennis (Australian Open - woohoo!)  Turn in early.  Have some hot chocolate.  Tomorrow is supposed to be another cold and wet day.  Burr!

This outfit is a combination of comfortable and stylish all in one.  I'm lucky that my office runs towards the casual, so I can get away with outfits like this.  Warm sweaters are awesome in the winter.  The print gives some life and interest to an otherwise plain and basic outfit.

New Directions

Happy New Year!  I hope that your holidays and new year have been fun and exciting for you.  On this end, I have been planning and prepping for a change.  Hopefully, you'll agree with me that this is a good change.  I've known for a while that I might want to revamp my previous blog - Style, Spreads and Strength.  I love clothes, fashion and dressing up or down depending on the occasion.  But I also love sports and have a new found love named running.  I did not think that a fashion blog was the place to discuss my running escapades.

So, I have created 2 new blogs.  For those of you who want to follow the fashion side of things, I have created a new space on this blog, Jasper and Jacquard.  I am planning to expand the content to include personal style and how to create one that is all your own.  While I love Style, Spreads and Strength, I think that I tried to cover too much under one umbrella.  So, I have closed that site.  I have transported all the post from Style, Spreads and Strength to this blog.

If you are interested in following my pursuits in health and fitness, check out A Fit and Lively Dash.  On this blog, I plan to discuss healthy living and how I try to incorporate it into my busy life.

Happy New Year!  I hope that 2013 brings you the best it has to offer.

Welcome!

Welcome to Jasper and Jacquard!  This is the next phase my journey.  My first blog Style, Spreads and Strength was my first step in this journey.  I used that blog to share my thoughts and love of fashion. I hope to use this space to define and refine my personal style.  And along the way, I hope that I can help you do the same.

I believe that personal style is an expression of who we are; and how things and people around us influence our lives.  Personal style can reflect one's likes, dislikes and experiences.   I plan to explore my personal style through the use of the following:

  1. Dress
  2. Accessories
  3. Home decor
  4. Entertaining
I plan to post 3 times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.  Once a week, I will include a post devoted to personal style and how to create and refine your signature style.   I hope that you will join me in this journey.

The name Jasper and Jacquard comes from my love of fashion, specifically accessories and clothing.  Jasper is a play on my current obsession with gemstones.  Jasper comes in many colors including green, red, brown, yellow and blue.  The green variety of jasper reminds me of jade, my latest obsession.  Jasper can be used as a gemstone or polished forming a vase, seal, or snuff box.  I also use term jasper as a play on my love for Wedgwood which is most famously known for its jasperware, a type of stoneware.  Wedgwood is a British ceramics company known for its production of pottery with a matte finish, "jasper ware," found in a variety of colors.  The most recognized jasperware is Wedgwood blue.  Jacquard is a type of fabric or textile with a complex pattern.  The materials, colors and patterns used to make jacquard are so lovely and unexpected in their combination.  They add depth and dimension to the fabric, article of clothing and overall outfit of the wearer.

Welcome to my playground.  I hope that you see something that you like and come back often.
