Gone Girl and Chicken Pad see iew

OOTD 10-25-14

I spent Saturday reading, cleaning and catching up on all the things that pile up when one is "busy." So I was very excited for my reward - movie and dinner at one of my favorite restaurants. My BFF, D, was my partner in crime. We caught an early showing of Gone Girl. All I can say is WOW! I did not get a chance to read the book. But it is definitely on my list. I downloaded it prior to the movie to make sure this gets done. The plan was to read this book on vacation. But somehow that did not occur. Dinner was Asian-themed. I thoroughly enjoyed Chicken pad see iew and sticky rice with mango. Yum! Do you reward yourself after completing a less than pleasant but necessary task?

Hello, Loverlies!  I hope that you have been enjoying the spring weather.  I am totally digging the warmth.  But I have an upcoming trip and some beach time will be included.  As Memorial Day approaches, we are all thinking of beach attire.  Most of my suits are in shades of blues and greens.  Good, but it's all feeling very blah to me.  So I decided to branch out in another direction - orange.  This is my accent color that I chose a number of years ago.  I have amassed quite a number or orange/coral items in my closet. But no beach wear.  So, I am taking the plunge.  The bottom to this tankini was only available in a string bikini.  I tried it on and realized that this would not work.  So I was on the hunt for an appropriate bikini bottom.  I am loving the mixed print suits that are available but I have not found one the I love enough to buy.  But I have my eye out.  So this is my take on mixing prints.

The one rule to remember in mixing prints is the have at least one color common to both items.  I ordered the bottoms on line.  So, I will have to wait to see if the shades of orange work together.   I will post some of the other pairings that I have in mind.

Do you plan to refresh your beach wear?  What items are you looking to add to your closet?

I hope that everyone has recovered from our last storm.  I think that I am ready for spring.  But I am very glad to have some items in my closet that keep me warm, dry and toasty while battling the elements and shoveling my driveway.  These are items that I have picked up this fall/winter season.  I saw either function or value in each item.  Or I just fell in love with the item and had to take it home with me!  The latter is more likely.  But imagine my surprise, when these items actually became useful.  I have used them on more than one occasion and for more than shoveling snow.  A few winter races that were colder than I expected.  Or in a few outdoor training sessions when cabin fever began to set in.  And running around town or going to and from the gym as originally marketed.  Imagine that!  The Plush Tech Fusion pants are lined with fleece and do not overheat.  It keeps me at just the right level of toasty during outdoor activities.  The base runner top caught my eye back when I thought that running was still in my future.  I use it for walks outdoors in cool to colder weather and for indoor training.  The hiking boots I have had forever.  I bought then for a trip to Colorado many moons ago.  They are still holding strong.  The traction on these boots leaves me confident when I am trekking around in the snow or on a trail. Anyway, Lululemon and Athleta are worth their weight in gold for making such stylish and warm apparel.  I am excited for the warmer weather to appear and I can peel off the sleeves on my scuba jacket and convert it to a vest.  Divine!  Fleece is a very good thing.

What are your cold weather tricks for staying warm during your outdoor activities?

I hope that everyone is being safe if you are experiencing this storm that has traveled across the US.  I was called into work.  And plodded to work and spent a few hours before plodding back home.  This is one of the ways I like to stay stylish and warm.  The boots are incredibly warm.   I really love this top from Athleta.  I saw it in the store and hesitated.  But I knew that the style would suit me so I took the plunge.  And I am really glad that I did.  I am trying to be more intentional with my wardrobe choices.  I am going for quality and longevity as opposed to quick gratification.  I am also crushing on gray items these days.  I'll put together a post on the grey items I have collected in the last month or so.

Happy snow day!  When is the first day of Spring?

I have been wearing pants for the last couple of weeks and I really needed a break.  I really like skirts and boots etc.  But I feel like I was deceived by the weatherman.  This skirt is ridiculously warm.  So wear with caution.  But I figured if I went lighter (weight-wise) on top, I would be okay.  This was a good idea.  But I was not the only one at work that feared she had dressed to warmly for the work environment.  Either way, this skirt always makes me happy.  I love tweed and a colored tweed in colors that I like is always fabulous!  I have been sore from my workouts the last 2 days and really needed flat shoes.  The flats I wore are a patent black loafer, but the CeCe ballet flat shown above is a good substitute.

What do you do to get yourself out of a fashion rut?  Do you have go to pieces that never fail to make you smile?

Today is one of those days that you want to snuggle up in bed all day or just spend time in front of a fire with a cup of tea.  I did a little bit of the former prior to my yoga class.  Now I am just wiped and considering the later for the remainder of the day.  By the end of the week, I am usually very tired.  But after today's yoga practice, I am very tired.  I think that I'll have to incorporate more rest time into my week.  I have recently discovered Lululemon apparel.  And what can I say, I am in love.  The cuts and the fabrics are fabulous.  I adore the jackets.  And I have decided that this Forme jacket II will be my "official yoga jacket."  The fabric is a black and purple semi-abstract design which I love. It keeps me warm but not too warm.  A great layer over a tank or short sleeved top.  The yoga pants are from Athleta.  They are called the Kickbooty pants.  I really like this bottom and have it in black and heather black.  The material is soft and breathable.   I am always on the look out for comfy breathable work out clothes.  Puddles beware!  My rain boots have a microfleece lining to keep my toes warm during the deluge of rain.  Perfection.

Yesterday weather-wise was an all around blah day.  Rain in the morning, peaks of sunshine at lunchtime and more rain and fog in the evening.  Luckily, I was able to sneak out for lunch and grab some rays in the afternoon. But by dinner time, more rain.  Ugh!  I picked up this top of during one of the recent 40% off sale at J. Crew and I absolutely love it.  It is fun and light after all the warmer knits I have been wearing with the recent arctic weather we've been experiencing.  I met D for drinks and tapas and we caught up on life and love.  Oh so many stories, lol!  Then we headed to the movies to catch American Hustle.  I see why this film is getting so much buzz.  The cast and the writing is phenomenal.  The fact that some of the events happened in real life just add to the pull of the movie.  But what sells the movie is the clothing and the facial expressions of the cast as well as the endearing quirks that makes each character human.  Christian Bale and Bradley Cooper knock it out of the park.  And the leading ladies, Amy Adams and Jennifer Lawrence, more than hold there own.  Definitely a must see and a likely Oscar nominee.

What are your plans for the weekend?  And will the weather slow you down?
